#BeBoldForChange - Meet Harriet

The theme for International Women's Day 2017 is #BeBoldforChange, and we want to introduce you to one of our remarkable fundraisers who has gone above and beyond in her support of Dig Deep and is helping us change lives in rural Kenya.

Harriet Brass is a second year Geography student at York St John’s University, originally from Colchester in Essex. Harriet loves reading Harry Potter, travelling and fundraising.

Harriet Brass

She has always fundraised for different charities, and hopes to progress in to aid development and relief work in the future.

Harriet signed up to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with Dig Deep in 2016, and was the first fundraiser to reach her target that year. She successfully summited Kilimanjaro this September and has now taken on our Mount Kenya challenge this year with her sister, Alice.

It doesn’t stop there.

Harriet will also be volunteering further with Dig Deep as the Group Leader at her University, helping Dig Deep recruit and support student fundraisers. Some of Harriet’s favourite fundraising events for Dig Deep have been her Big Breakfast, Cake Stall and Bingo night, all were all massive hits!

Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya are both very demanding mountains, being Africa’s two highest peaks! They are both incredibly beautiful and rewarding in their own but each mountain requires strength and determination to reach its summit. Both treks are unique, beautiful, rewarding, and each mountain offers an individual sense of achievement.

Harriet’s commitment to Dig Deep, by choosing to embark on two challenges whilst also fundraising and volunteering prove how she is being bold for change, and is an example of all the awesome things that can be done to make a difference.

The fundraising that she alone is doing will contribute immediately to making a change to our projects in rural Kenya. With support from fundraisers like Harriet, Dig Deep continue to transform the lives of children and communities by providing access to clean water, safe toilets and vital hygiene knowledge.
